17 May Mohsin pulls LSG out from the clasp of Death against MI
An exhilarating win for the Super Giants! They defeated the five-time IPL champions like a pro. MI got a good start with Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan with a great touch adding 90 runs for the first wicket. Kishan made a quick 50, but after he and Rohit were dismissed, the Super Giants clinched back the momentum. SKY and Wadhera dropped early, and although Tim David brought back the game from the clasp of LSG but there was no one to support him on the other side and MI fell short by 5 runs after failing to score 11 runs off the last 6 from Mohsin Khan.
Marcus Stoinis, Player of the Match: Great moment. He hasn’t played here from a long time, a big moment for Mohsin, especially bowling the final over after being injured. It was very close, there are a lot of things not going your way. A couple of good overs from the spinners and Mohsin sealed it for us. We have shown that we are a real team, there no real superstars, there are different people stepping up and performing for us. We are missing KL (Rahul), but we have KP (Krunal) leading us, and Andy (Flower) has a really good cricket brain.
Krunal Pandya: I was having cramps, I pulled a muscle. I have always been a team player, anything for the team, so happy with the result. Mohsin has a big heart. He had a surgery and playing IPL after such a thing, then sky is the limit. It has not been easy for us, really happy to end on a good note here. Good to give them a win in this last game at this venue.
Mohsin Khan: The plan was to execute what I did in practice and I executed. Even Krunal was talking to me and I told him the same. The run-up is the same, did not change it in the last over. I was trying to calm myself down, not look at the scoreboard and bowl the 6 balls well. Since the wicket was gripping, I tried the slower ball, but I bowled two of those and then changed to the yorker and it was reversing as well. Been a tough time as I was injured, playing after a year. My father got discharged from the ICU yesterday and he was in the hospital for the last 10 days and I did it for him, he would have been watching. I’m grateful to the team and the support staff, Gautam [Gambhir] sir, Vijay [Dahiya] sir for playing me this game even though I did not do well last game.
Rohit Sharma: We didn’t play well enough to win the game. There were little moments in the game that we didn’t win unfortunately. We assessed the pitch really well and it was a good pitch to bat on and that score was definitely chasable and we lost our way in the second half of the innings. We gave too many runs at the back end and the last three overs went for a few. But the way we started with the bat we were in a good position to chase, but like I said we lost our way in the second half. He (Stoinis) played really well, kept hitting straight which is what you need to do on a pitch like this. It was a brilliant knock from him. Not sure how the calculation (about the points and NRR) will work, but we need to come out and play some good cricket in our last game (against SRH).
