The Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka match will be held at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Tuesday, September 05, 2023, and is set to begin at 03:00 PM local time.

Sri Lanka and Afghanistan have faced each other in 10 matches in ODI. Out of these 10 games , Sri Lanka have won 6 whereas Afghanistan have come out victorious on 3 occasions . 1 match ended without a result.

HISTORY : The Afghanistan Cricket Federation was established in 1995. It was granted affiliate membership by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2001 and this year marked the beginning of an incredible journey in the history of sports, and subsequently being granted associate membership of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in 2003. The Afghanistan Cricket Federation was established in 1995. On 22nd June 2017, Afghanistan was awarded Full Member status during ICC’s Annual General Meeting in London, United Kingdom. This was ACB’s long standing goal and it only took Afghanistan four years to be elevated from Associate to Full Member. In addition, ICC awarded List A status to ACB’s three major domestic tournaments. ACB was also awarded Test status by ICC in 2017 opening a new chapter for Afghanistan to play test cricket against Full Member nations in the years to come.  

 

PERFORMANCES : Certainly, it will be quite intriguing to witness the face-off between Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran and has accumulated an impressive total of 749 runs in just 15 One Day Internationals (ODIs). Mohammad Nab i(C) will be headlining the match and hoping for his captaincy skills to flourish. Afghanistan’s spin attack and their aggressive batting style might give them the edge they need to take the win. HISTORY : Cricket was introduced in Sri Lanka by the British during the period of colonization. The earliest reported match in Sri Lanka took place on 5th September 1832, this match began the cricket club’s formation in the country. The oldest first class-cricket club i.e. the Colombo Cricket Club was formed in 1863.It was in 1995 when they won their first Test match on foreign soil against New Zealand. In 2002, Sri Lanka won their maiden title of the Champion Trophy. In the second final, Sri Lanka scored 222 runs in the first innings and India batted for just 8.4 overs before the match was abandoned. Both teams were declared joint winners in 2002.After winning the 1996 World Cup, Sri Lanka featured in two consecutive World Cup finals of 2007 & 2011. Currently, Sri Lanka holds 9th position in the ICC Ranking for ODI teams.

PERFORMANCES : Sri Lanka, A defending champion will be looking to win one more title but this time it will not be easy given the current line-ups and forms of training the opponents have been under. The Sri lankan team however have been in good form since the World Cup 2023 qualifiers. Dasun Shanaka will lead the Sri Lankan Team in Asia Cup 2023 whereas Kusal Mendis is expected to be the team’s wicket-keeper for this tournament.Sri Lanka has a decent batting line-up which is led by Dimuth Karunaratne, Pathum Nissanka and Dhananjaya de Silva.
