I am Back out of Retirement: Chris Gayle after Virat Kohli scored his 7th IPL Century

Despite Royal Challengers Bangalore ‘s (RCB) elimination from the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) after losing to the Gujarat Titans on their own soil, M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Virat Kohli made history by scoring his 7th IPL century which is the most by any batter. This knock made Kohli surpass the earlier record created by Chris Gayle, who has scored 6 IPL centuries and is now retired. After Kohli’s achievement, Chris Gayle reacted hilariously and joked that he will comeback next year to regain the crown back. Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli were pals and teammates opening the RCB’s batting line-up for six years.

“Never doubt Virat Kohli. Fantastic innings, well played, you know, he has put his team in a winning position,” said Gayle told Jio Cinema.
“Virat and Faf batted really well, but it was all about Virat Kohli…Fantastic innings by Virat, he has passed the Universe Boss. I am
coming back out of retirement and I will see you next year Virat,” Gayle added.

Virat Kohli became only the third batter after Shikhar Dhawan (2020) and Jos Buttler to register two successive centuries in IPL history. Kohli was joined by 23 year old rising star Shubman Gill in the same match, after the young opener’s stunning 104 of 52 balls helped GT chase down a massive score of 197 and knock RCB out of the IPL 2023.
