7 Up Down

The following tactics are going to help you ace the game of 7 Up Down. Keep reading this blog for more insight on the game.

The card game “7 Up, 7 Down” is a simple and fast-paced game that can be played with a standard deck of playing cards. Here are the rules for playing this game:

Players : 3 or more players.

Objective : The goal of the game is to be the first player to get rid of all their cards.

Setup :

  • Use a standard deck of 52 playing cards. Jokers are not used.
  • Shuffle the deck thoroughly and choose a dealer.

  • The dealer shuffles the deck and deals seven cards to each player if there are four or more players. If there are three players, each player receives nine cards.
  • The remaining deck is placed face-down in the centre as the draw pile. A discard pile is created next to it.
  • The player to the left of the dealer goes first, and play proceeds clockwise.
  • On a player’s turn, they can play a card that is one higher or one lower in rank than the top card of the discard pile. For example, if the top card on the discard pile is a 7, the player can play a 6 or an 8.
  • If a player cannot play a card, they must draw a card from the draw pile. If the drawn card can be played, they can immediately do so. Otherwise, they add the drawn card to their hand.
  • Players continue taking turns, trying to get rid of all their cards.
  • When a player plays their last card, they must announce “7 Up, 7 Down” to indicate that they have won the round.
  • The game can continue with additional rounds, and players keep track of their scores. In some variations, players may receive points based on the cards left in their opponents’ hands at the end of each round.
  • The player with the lowest score or the first player to reach a predetermined score (e.g., 100 points) wins the overall game.

Card Ranking :

  • Aces are considered the lowest cards and can be played on kings or twos.
  • The game is usually played without suits, so only the numerical value of the cards matters.

Special Rules :

  • Some variations of the game allow players to play “7 Up” (one higher) or “7 Down” (one lower) from any number on a 7. For example, if the top card on the discard pile is a 7, a player could play an 8 or a 6.
  • Some versions also include special action cards, like skipping a player’s turn or reversing the direction of play.

“7 Up, 7 Down” is a straightforward and enjoyable card game that can be played with friends and family. The rules can be customised to fit the preferences of the players.
